Located in the beautiful Hudson Valley, the Village of Montgomery is a great place to live, raise a family, shop, and do business.

Our Community \| Village of Montgomery

December, 2012

Marion Mohr Wild, Historian

Your Montgomery Village Museum has brought another year of pleasure and historic information to many visitors.  Guests, especially city-folk, admire its countrified informal atmosphere, some resting in our Memorial Garden under the beauty of its stained-glass windows.

Year-long programs and displays have a been well attended and others are planned for 2013.

Montgomery Elementary students, their principal, Mrs. Serratore, and her staff are to be commended for the excellent program presented October 19th commemorating the 75th Anniversary of their building.

At the same time, all learned of the prestigious past of education in our locality.  A display of M.H.S. artifacts informed the audience. Afterwards students led residents on tours through the building.

Mrs. Doris MacMurtrie Beatty, 1938 graduate whose winning essay was placed in the building’s cornerstone in 1937 was honored by Mrs. Serratore.  Mrs. Beatty was a beloved teacher in the building for many years following.

We are grateful to George Weeden, a veteran who served admirably in the Korean Conflict.  His interesting program was heart-rending, and his display will remain for visitors to admire.

Springtime will begin in March with a Gaelic Cultural Day March 9th followed by a Civil War Program in April - May, assisted by the American Legion Post and Boy Scout Troops.  Donations will be collected towards a memorial honoring Mr. William O’Hall, our notable musician who brought musical knowledge and entertainment to our community for many years via his early Community Orchestra, George Washington Band, Montgomery High School’s first orchestra and band.  His many years of volunteerism and civic activities must be recognized now.

Your donations and suggestions for a memorial are appreciated.

Happy Hanukkah and Blessed Christmas to all.
